Scratch building scale models has been my passion for many years now. I love to engage in challenging scratch building projects including entire buildings with lots of details, such as the gas station diorama or the old barn.

But sometimes a small scratch building project is just right to see a great result fast. The car wash pylon sign is such a project. Easy to overview but challenging at the same time. The body of the sign is very simple. The challenge lies in the making of the letter edges. A nice exercise to learn to work accurately with small aluminum pieces.

This car wash pylon sign is one of my favorite pylon signs out there and a great example on how to build one of these vintage pylon signs. There are a lot of iconic pylon signs such as the world famous “Welcome to Las Vegas”.

The car wash pylon sign is a beautiful item to decorate your model car vitrine, add detail to a model car diorama or to stand by itself on your desk.
